Sozopol

Once in Bulgaria you can reach Sozopol via car, bus, or any small ship able to berth on a small quay. The nearest airport is in Bourgas and the bus prices are relatively low: less than EUR 2 in each direction. Taxi to the coastal area Budjaka is some EUR 2.50.

Sozopol pegan’s name has been Apolonia – named after the Greek idol, today the only reminiscence of it is the festival with the same name and you may bet – a restaurant and the oldest hotel as usual. There are enough museums, buildings and memorials to relate to this.

There are two beaches in Sozopol - The Central Beach in the Old town and Harmony Beach both friendly for people who need sunshades (EUR 1.5 for each), small stores and restaurants nearby . The Central Beach also has a park called “sea garden”.

The Central Beach
Enetring the beach is free of charge, you pay for sunshades and chairs. If you have children or prefer more control on nudists, the beach is not your place – top-less sunbathing is allowed. Nudists are not. Make sure you are there early enough to find a good place, during the high season the beach may be overcrowded.

Beach “Harmani”
Located in the New Town of Sozopol. Chairs and umbrellas are paid: 2$ each. The beach is secured by lifeguards but beware of hidden underwater streams – make sure you are acquainted with local signalizing symbols and do not enter the sea when there is red flag on bay.

The beach area is encompassed by numerous small restaurants, bars, disco-s and hotels. You are likely to meet nudists at the remote parts of the beach.


Gold Fish Beach
Not far from Sozopol (3 km north from Sozopol)on the road to Bourgas.The beach is actually part of a camping called Gold Fish, the surfers’ first choice. It is long and wide and quite calm comparing to the other beaches around. Umbrella and chairs are paid, entering the beach is free of charge, except if you are with a car – costs EUR 1 per day. Ropotamo river
The Ropotamo Reserve is well-known in Bulgaria because its unique. The River Ropotamo has a diverse landscape ranging from cliffs and forests to sandy beaches, dunes and swamps; the Arkutino swamp is a shelter for many rare bird species.

The archaeological museum
Archeological museum is located in the Old Town and is worth seeing especially if you like History and Archeology. Entrance fee – 2 lev for foreigners, 1 lev – for Bulgarians.

Art Gallery Bisera
There is an Art Gallery Bisera in the Old Sozopol popular with its beautiful paintings graphics photos, plastic, wooden and earthen arts with the Sozpolo’s views but not only, It’s the perfect spot to buy original gifts.
Port Sozopol
The port in Sozopol is small and used for passenger transportation, tours and cargo shipment. There are seven places for ship and a harbour station with a checkpoint. Moreover Sozopol offers yacht harbours and quays for fishing boats in the town of Sozopol. You may be also able to see the naval base surrounded by high walls. Theharbour is a great escape where you can see variety of wooden boats or watch the local fishermen unloading catch from their nets.
